Love to have fun (well who doesn't)! I am little bit of a party animal, but wouldn't mind spending an evening reading a book or just watching the tv. I do tend to talk a lot but sometimes i plain switch off and brood...still dont know what about. I love dogs!! I have one of my own and he is the best gift I gave myself.

Cynicism?

Have you come across people who do not see anything nice in any situation? If you find something to be happy about they soon tell you that you are living in a bubble. You try to make the best out of a situation and they tell you it’s a lost cause. You try to help someone they tell you that you wont be helped in return.

It makes them happy to be in a frame of mind where everything is dark and pessimism rules. They live in a land of no hope and joy. If you see them smile it actually makes you wonder if its genuine happiness or because they have seen something to add on to their long list of “I told you so”.

You are genuinely nice to them they think its pretence. You get angry with them they are not surprised and they welcome the anger as their just reward. They blame the world for their misery and lack of hope. I wonder when they will realise that no one makes one miserable unless you let them. Under all that cynicism hides a troubled, broken and vulnerable spirit.

i completely agree with you. such people should be debarred from society. there must be only joy and joy in this fine excellent beautiful magnificent world and if you dont have any joy for any number of reasons, since you are fault, then look at the joyful ones and take inspiration. yes, i think that is how it must be

of course you arent. i am the one who's saying that.

BUT does it not strike you that by being critical about cynics, pessimists, pessimism and cynicism, you are, IN FACT, joining the group you speak against...just that your cynicism is directed at a particular set of ideas which goes against your world view.

If you pause and think, with those words which have you have written, you are being exactly that which you deplore - a cynic...of cynicism maybe but nevertheless a cynic. Worth mulling over, i say.

How would you tell a 6-year-old child who's been raped to be joyous? How would you ask someone who's entire family has been swept away by a giant wave to look at the better side of life? Forget trying it, you wouldn't want to be in the same room with them because you only look at the joyous side of things, therefore blank this out of consciousness. In Mumbai slums dot every corner, yet no one notices it. It's very strange. It's as if there's a blind spot in the eye to that squalor. Yet these are real people living there.

It takes a little bit of cynicism to go beyond the obvious...and the obvious gives only so much, surface truths.

Think, Ramblings, think. There is joy and humour of course, despite everything, but that joy and humour has to come from within the squalor called life and not by being blind to it as people who are not cynics and lead cloistered comfortable lives are.

Cynicism is most often a way to deal with life..to look at it in the face and say 'i dont care'..
but of cos, there are hard core cynicists who dont see any good even when there is something good

madhavan,
To be realistic in life you don’t have to be a cynic. I have been around places where you would shudder to enter. It sure hasn’t turned me into a cynic.
What I have written could be about a friend or could be in general; point being – it does not help you in anyway to look at life that way. You are only digging a deeper hole, which is difficult to get out of. Life is not easy or full of smiles. That does not mean you can’t enjoy yourself. By not living my life I am giving some one else the satisfaction of seeing my hopes wither and die.
Life dishes out unpleasant stuff you have deal with it and move on, that makes you stronger and a fighter. You are setting examples. How would you like this one- day and night you live under the terror of never seeing your father again because he is on some terrorist’s hit list? How would you like to see a beheaded corpse on the road when coming back from school? How would you like to know that your friend met with accident and would die in two days? That’s life for you; so before you tell me to think, think before you lash out!
It’s about being realistic in life, I am not gonna bow down because life keeps dishing out ugly stuff.
Nobody is being blind to the reality here but it does not mean I have to become pessimistic about it. That’s my take on life. Hope you can respect that!

We don’t see eye to eye about a lot of things. If you don’t like what you see in my blog you are most welcome to stop visiting it.

Very true..these people blame us for being too much 'optimistic' but in reality they are too much 'pessimistic' and the sad part is that, they donot understand this! The key to tackle this is to keep these people at a distance :) They are like viscosity (sorry to bring in fluid dynamics here :)) , they tend to make you cynical!

A controversial post I see! I try to be a cynic but fail miserably! At best I'm a sceptical non-cynic! :)
