27th October Chennai

I went to sleep hearing the rain on my windowpane. And all I was thinking about was the fact that I would have to get muck all over me the next day. Working days with rain...

I didn't sleep well; I kept getting up to check if it was still raining. Around 7:45 in the morning Nans (Hostel mate) came to the room; she said it was pouring and wanted to know if I would like to check what the roads looked like. Oh well, at that time of the morning nobody is around; especially on a rainy day, that too on mount road. So we braved the rain and went out in our nightclothes (yep!) and under one umbrella. By the time we walked down the road and reached the service lane overlooking mount road, we were wading in ankle deep water and completely drenched : ). But it was fun; the water was cooollllddd.
We got back to hostel and sat down to watch the news. Guess what? All schools and colleges were closed. That didn't help me much since I had to go to office. Some of my hostel mates were quite happy considering their semester exams were on. So, naturally their exams got cancelled. I went in to get ready. Sigh! Life is just not fair sometimes. Then I called up a colleague of mine, she told me not to go since it was pouring cats and dogs and most of the roads were water logged. I called the others and got the same response. A rainy day and it was a holiday! (Not exactly a holiday since we didnt know if the office had declared it a holiday).

My mom was supposed to come down to Chennai. I called up dad, he had already put mom on the train. I was a little tense considering it was pouring and trains were getting cancelled. No matter, I went out around 1:00 to go to the station. Waded through water, Chotu was with me (Priya- hostel mate). No matter how warm we were dressed we were cold and the umbrella and raincoats were hardly any protection. The wind kept pulling the umbrella, then the umbrella got folded the other way...eeee it was too funny. We got the umbrella straight again. Thankfully we got an auto. Phew!!! Now we were drenched and sitting in an auto driving through roads which had knee-deep water. We finally reached the station. It was packed; I went up to the display board only to know that all trains were cancelled. We went to the stationmaster and he told us the train my mother was traveling in was not coming it had been stopped. In fact all trains from Chennai were cancelled, so were the incoming ones.
I could not get through to my mother; her number was out of reach.Needless to say, dad was worried so was my sister. I got strict orders from dad to get back to the hostel and the same from my sister. The weather reports had predicted a cyclone. After waiting for an hour, we got back to the hostel. It was around four something when mom called, she was fine. Her train had been stopped, so she was taking an electric train to reach Chennai. She reached the station and dad sent some people to pick her up. Phew! What a day.

Well back in the hostel were in a mood to eat something hot and cheesy. We decided to call up and order for food. But guess what? They were not delivering due to the rain. Wahh! But we had fun playing cards, watching TV, reading etc.
Well today is a working day, the sun is nice and bright. And the office had declared 27th as a holiday :D.

Dad and Snowy

When it comes to both of them it’s a love- hate relationship; at least that’s what I keep telling myself. The day will start with dad going out for his morning jog, by that time snowy is up and out in the garden. He has his morning milk and bread and he is happy and content chasing birds, flies etc. But during this chasing bit he kinda does trample over some plants…dad comes back from his jog and all hell breaks loose. By this time snowy gets his paws cleaned and is back in the house already asleep (I think he pretends). Dad will come into the house and head straight for snowy. All the while snowy will keep his eyes shut (asleep). Slowly one eye will open (wondering what the noise is all about) and he looks up at dad…sighs, closes his eyes and goes back to sleep. All the while dad will be yelling at him about his plants. Things like- stupid mutt, I am going to shoot this dog etc. It happens everyday, sometimes in the garden or inside the house depends when snowy gets into the house.

Dad loves bullying snowy but deep down he loves him I know. When I am around snowy is not really bothered by what dad says he actually barks back if dad is troubling him. Usually he goes to mom for support if my sis and I are not around.
When dad comes back from office snowy is there to greet him; tail wagging and dad pats him once or twice. Sometimes dad takes him for a walk or two. But if you ask dad say something nice about snowy…hah!! not one word, other than dumb mutt and lazy dog etc nothing else will come out. But you can see snowy go sit with dad sometimes near his feet and dad will bend down and pat him saying good boy… very rare at the same time very sweet. Dad and snowy they are quite the entertainment channel at home.

Rainy Days

I still haven't figured out why I like rain only on holidays...
I mean I love rain; I like playing in the rain getting wet and all that. But ask me to enjoy it when I have to go to work? Eeeek! It's still the same old me and still the same old rain.
Something very funny happened yesterday a friend/colleague of mine (VEE) wanted to go out to have lunch, so I went along to give her company. When we got out, we saw that the road was filled with water and I had serious issues about wading through. But we did manage not to get ourselves wet by clinging on to the edges of the walls. Aahh success! atleast that's what I thought; but oh no fate was not so kind. I had to get my feet wet as the next street was filled with water too.

Well both of us managed to get across and got the lunch. All done! Now we had to come back the same way, we did have to wade through again. Here is the best part- I slipped on some mud, for a second I thought I would go face first in the muck; thankfully I regained my balance...phew!
Oh yeah, Vee was quite amused she was laughing all right....hmmphh. She was carrying a bottle of water, so I asked her if I could wash my feet. Guess what? She thought I was talking about the puddle and said ' yeah... go ahead'. When she saw me using the bottle, she was like..' ohhh, you meant the bottle...'. I was amazed ...I mean why would I wash my feet in the puddle and would I be asking permission... when I said this she started laughing again. Yep, that's me the clown!
All I have to say is that I love rain only on holidays!!

He has been an all time favourite since my childhood.
He is too cute, and I like the way he talks.
He is adorable and the best.

P.G.G.H

Okay so it's not exactly THE place to be but it comes second to home. It's the Palm Grove Girls Hostel and run by the army for all us army brats. It's a huge bungalow, and ten of us are staying together. There is Kavita alias spaced cow my roommate; she is called that because she is usually spaced out and a real mad cow...so 'spaced cow'. Then we have Nandhini (nans), Prerna (ncc), Shirin, Priya (chotu), Shalini (mad woman), Cynthia, Subha and Sujitha(piggy).
You see all those names in the brackets? Well those are their pet names, courtesy moi.
They all are a fun bunch to be with. Once all of us get back from work or college or wherever; we all gang up in the living room and watch TV. The clock strikes nine and there is a race between spaced cow and Subha to get the best seat in front of the TV. It's a contest between those two; they just have to get that comfortable corner on the couch. It's fun to watch those two make a dash for it. During this time most of us are in the dinning room finishing up dinner. Those two just gulp their food down and run. What are they going to see? This really stupid soap called 'Woh rehnai wali mehlon ki', which is followed with another stupid soap called 'Hare kanch ki choodiyan'.
Once those two settle down we join them, to watch the soaps. Yes they are horrible, but we keep up a running commentary and its real fun. We come up with funny lines, which really clash with the expressions on screen. hee hee.
That's not all, the commentary goes to talking about their acting skills, the characters, their make up, their clothes.......it's pure fun. By the end of it most of us are rolling on the floor.
Clock strikes ten and we are done with TV, then it's back into the rooms. Sometimes we go out for walks around the hostel, thankfully we have a huge garden. Otherwise we don't really have anything to do we gang up in a room to talk. Or it's sitting and reading or helping someone study, playing pranks or taking care of chotu (she falls sick quite often).
We have water fights, or most of us stand around corners to spook some one. Considering it is a very old bungalow it's quite spooky to walk alone in the night. Suddenly out of the blue you will hear a scream and you know some one has been had. :)
Saturdays is all about sitting up and talking about ghosts and scary movies. I go mad with scary movies, I usually sit with eyes scrunched shut during the movie, but I still like to go. I remember seeing 'The Ring' I was sleeping with the lights on for a month and my Bible close beside me. And it's quite easy to scare me; doesn't take much, which amuses my hostel mates a lot.
Recently some of us went for the movie 'Grudge', I was bullied into it because this time I had made up my mind not to see this movie. So we saw the movie, these guys didn't let me cover my eyes....I really have a bad bunch of hostel mates (monsters). But I love them.
The movie was horrible quite a waste of money but it scared the hell out of me, and I slept with all the lights switched on. I made sure my roommate slept after I went off to sleep. It makes you feel that some one is there to watch over you. Mean of me but she sleeps late anyways. :)
When it comes to birthdays we have midnight feasts. We get a huge birthday cake for the birthday girl and at midnight we wake her up and surprise her with the cake. Eating chocolate cake around midnight with all of us whispering (don't want to wake the warden) is pure bliss. The cake part is not a surprise anymore considering we do it for every birthday, but its fun. Then next day we all go out for a big birthday bash.
For now, exams are closing in, so we are waiting till they get over and then go out and party!!!

My friend and the new MSN

You must be wondering what this is all about.
My friend AquaM who introduced me to the world of blogging has got her hands on the new version of MSN messenger. It was just fine when she had the old version going on, life was good. Not anymore she's over the moon with all those winks... and sends winks, nudges etc.
Right between a conversation she will pop them up and she knows how irritating they can get but oh no she will not stop. ;)
She keeps popping this huge wink which is actually a mega smooch. Ewwwwwwwwwww, is what comes to mind considering the sound that accompanies with it. Iam sure people who are using MSN know what I am talking about.

Chennai for me

I remember when my family moved down to Chennai, I came kicking and screaming. I really didn't want to move down to Chennai, I had my friends, my favourite hang outs.....I had to leave all that behind... the very thought. But fate decided otherwise...... I threw tantrums, fought screamed (my elder sister helped), but... sigh!
Oh well we moved in to Chennai. I always thought that Chennai would be boring and dull, that I would never have any fun, or make any good friends and all I would be doing is hang around with my cousins. They were all older and me being the youngest.... Yeah, it had it's perks but....
Joined college, that's when it all started!
The places I went out with my friends and Chennai was fun all of a sudden.
It started with hanging around in a bowling arcade. Then it went out to going for long drives on EC road. Driving into narrow lanes that lead to clean beaches with no one in sight. Pure heaven.
Any time of the day... a suggestion of driving down to EC was always a great hit; let it be two in the afternoon or in the morning (my parents are pretty cool and trusting that way).
I had always wondered about Disco's in Chennai, well it was nice attending parties with dad and mom but quite different when friends go out clubbing.
So it came, the first time I visited a club in Chennai. We went to Le Flame (Le Meridien). It was okay, it wasn't a huge hit with me.
That's when a friend of mine recommended Dublin (Park Sheraton).
And after that there was no looking back. We were at Dublin every Saturday, every week.
We would come out around three or four in the morning head down to Cappuccino to have breakfast and go home and go to sleep. It didn't matter that your feet hurt dancing all night, it was fun, amazing....best times!
Chennai was good....but now its different. Chennai has a curfew now. It's like a Cinderella story, by midnight everything shuts down. Not a minute after 12:00. In order to curb drunken driving and cars zipping around at all hours the curfew was laid within city limits. That doest not mean that it does not happen; it still does.
EC road- where we used to drive is outside city limits. It leads to empty beaches and naturally beach houses which then leads to beach house parties. Unless you know a lot of people and trust them, you can't go for parties that happen there. Not exactly a safe haven.
We still go out though, but get back home after midnight.
Well in a way all of us have turned into Cinderellas, the clubs turn into pumpkins at the stroke of midnight.
Once the roads teemed with life and you could feel the energy. Cars zipping by, filled with people, happy faces and smiles.... now its empty roads and only the streetlights keeping them company.
The Chennai I knew then and the one I know now....sighh

Pretty girl

I am totally in love with this song ' pretty girl' by NB RIDAZ. I have been listening to it 24/7, I drove my room mate up the wall considering the number of times I played this song. Guess I will get over it after a while....but I am enjoying it for now. I have posted the lyrics below:
"Pretty Girl"
Ohh can I run away with you,
I wanna get lost in love baby,
To all those pretty girls (pretty girls)
This ones for you
(this ones for you)
Check this out
[CHORUS]
Something about you baby
Drives me crazy
Something about this pretty girl
Blows my mind,
Something about you baby
Drives me crazy
Something about this pretty girl
Blows my mind
Si tu supieras lo que siento,
Cada ves que me pongo a pensar en todo los momentos.
All the good times we had me and you you and I,
Hot summer nights making love in July.
The only girl that didn't give it on the first night.
Una mujer incomparable imma love for life.
Me captivaste with your ways and all the things you do.
My pretty girl, I gotta make it work with you.
Tell the world, tell you girls and your family,
Con este anillo te prometo, your my every thing.
Cause nobody's ever made me feel the way you do.
I jus dropped you off already miss you.Chica bonita, sonrisa sinsera.
I wanna be with you hasta que me muera.
Lets make a pact and always be together,
With you by my side girl I'm down for whatever.
[CHORUS]
You stood out from the group from across the room.
I had to keep my attention on you.
Something about that pretty face that pretty smile.
You couldn't help but to get lost in those pretty eyes.
Yeah this girl she had it all,
The type of woman you take to mother Saying look what I found, love and companionship.
Someone to talk through these rough times who ain't afraid to handle it.
And understand that my life is different and accepts it.
This isn't what I expected.
Yeah she's beautiful inside and out.
Something hard to find in the world these days.
Even on my worst day, She's got me happy like a kid waking up on his birthday.
Yeah this love was different it was based on friendship.
I'm letting you know I'm ready to ride out with you.
[CHORUS]
What's up little shortie can we talk for a minute.
I've been having dreams and you been all up in em'.
I know you don't know me I've seen you around.
Your the hottest looking honey that I seen in this town.
Come on lets conversate, take a walk get together.
Just wanna know you a little bit better.
Beauty incomparable eyes drove me crazy.
She that type I wanna have for my lady.
Something about you don't know what it is.
I know we just met but can I give you a kiss.
Grabbed her hand and she hugged me, acting kinda shy.
Dimples on your face got you looking pretty fly.
Baby this is real talk I wanna be with you.
Little did I know, you were digging me too.
Now I'm down on my knees got you saying I do.
So I had to write a song dedicated to you.
[CHORUS]
Something about you baby
Drives me crazy
Something about this pretty girl
Blows my mind,
Something about you baby
Drives me crazy
Something about this pretty girl
Blows my mind
