Wolves
I have always loved the way wolves look. I mean there is something about them that catches the eye. The first time I heard a wolf howl was when dad was posted in Assam, and it used to be really loud. It wasn't one but a whole bunch of them (could have been a bunch of feral dogs too). We kids got used to it after a point. We used to actually sit out in the balcony and listen to them.
If in the distance you could see a cloud of dust you know for sure they are out. I have seen some small ones but never seen a huge wolf. Why do I love wolves? No idea, I guess they remind of huge dogs and since I have is half terrier and a mountain dog mix, he is ferocious but a real darling. So thought I would share some pics of these wonderful animals.

Curls
In a family where everyone seems to have beautiful silky straight hair I am the odd one out. I have curls that take a lot of time to be tamed. Everyday I brush my hair till I can make any sense out of it. When they are brushed our or combed out whatever they look fine. Its only when I wash them they get into that curly effect. Grrrrrrrr!
Ma calls them the lion’s mane. I mean come on; God could have blessed me with straight hair too right? But no, that didn’t happen. Why? Coz my mother wanted one of her kids to have curly hair. She loves curly hair; well she shouldn’t have cursed me with it. I keep having these useless arguments with mom about it. Like mom cant I like straighten it puhleeez, its difficult to manage them, can I cut it short then… the list is endless. The option of straightening it is outta the window because she doesn’t want me to spoil the texture nor does she want two look alike sisters. I though mom was being funny my sis and I look the same?
Most of the people I know like curly hair (because they have straight hair). I am still out to convince mom that straight hair looks better on me but to no avail. If I ever have a child I would never wish for it to have curly hair. Its not I like I hate them, infact I know they look good but still straight hair looks better. : (
Sigh!

Question
There have been incidents when men(not all) pass comments or try to bump into you or worse. And of course they hang around in big groups so that if they do something you wont know whom to yell at. The saddest part is the security in such places, are they blind? I mean so much is happening around you and they act as if they are part of the pillars they are standing next too.
I don’t see why men have to make women feel degraded. Most of the women I know don’t blame themselves for what happens but then again a minute before you are happy and smiling and the next minute the smile is not on your face anymore. It can just plain ruin your whole happy mood.
The best thing you learn to do is embarrass these men. Corner them in front of people, giving them a piece of your mind. It used to work before. But nowadays yell at them, embarrass them, it just adds on more fuel to the fire I guess. Some of these men actually take it as a come on signal. From which angle I have no idea. The crowd never reacts, so it is pointless to even look at them for assistance.
Why can’t these men just live in their zone and not trouble us? Women don’t go around bumping, passing comments and drooling over men do they?
Even though I seem to have those answers...I still want to know why?

Saturday and Sunday- Weekend
My Sun Sign
But then again what you are isn’t foretold by the stars is it?
Like I said I love reading about my zodiac so I am putting down a few things about my sign which I got hold of online. And I have added a few of my inputs as well. (Yes I know its long.)
(This is not from Goodman’s book)
1. Making an impression is Job One for Leos, and when you consider their personal magnetism, you see the job is quite easy.
ME: personal magnetism? Is that what it means when I seem to attract only trouble??
2. Leos are an ambitious lot, and their strength of purpose allows them to accomplish a great deal. The fact that these folks are also creative makes their endeavors fun for them and everyone else. It's quite common to see a Leo on stage or in Hollywood, since these folks never shy away from the limelight.
ME: ‘I am fun’? Hmm maybe. ‘Creative’? To a certain extent yes. ‘Never shy away from the limelight’… What are you crazy?
3. They are also supremely talented and have a flair for the dramatic.
ME: ‘dramatic’? Oh so true!
4. It's the Lion that symbolizes Leos, and the king (or queen) of the jungle is a most appropriate mascot, since these folks consider themselves the rulers of their universe (and the Zodiac at that). Like Lions, Leos tend to be dignified and strong, and it is this sense of their power, which allows them to get things done.
ME: ‘rulers of the universe’? Not a bad idea at all! *Evil grin*
5. Lions are indeed opinionated and set in their ways.
Me: ahem, well everyone is like that. * Halo over the head*
6. Leo is ruled by the Sun, the center of the universe and the fuel for our being. In much the same way, Leos consider themselves indispensable and the center of the universe, and those who would tell them otherwise had better look out!
ME: I am not saying anything.
7. Lions are outgoing, self-assured and have a tremendous zest for life.
ME: give me more.
8. The Lion's enthusiasm is boundless, and along with that comes generosity of spirit and the determination to succeed. That focus may be construed as vanity and even bossiness at times, but Lions would say 'No way!' and continue along their regal path. Regardless of appearance, those born under this Sign can be counted on for their loyalty and sense of honor. They are also decisive, intensely proud and wonderfully romantic.
ME: hmmm …
9. Those born under this Sign are fearless and strong, which may be why Lions plunge in headfirst and let the chips fall where they may. Thankfully, Leos are dignified enough not to commit too many pratfalls. It's the Lion's unswerving courage that wins so many folks over.
ME: will a cheesy grin do?
10. While some would take to calling Lions status-conscious, these folks are truly warmhearted and want everyone to be happy. Hey, it's their kingdom, and happy campers make for a perfect peace.
ME: I am all for that!
11. Yes, the pleasure principle is paramount to the Lion, and along those lines, Leos are great at spending money. Lions can't fathom an uncomfortable throne.
ME: that reminds me I have to bug dada for money. Its crazy living alone you know.
12. The great strengths of the Leo-born are their creativity, idealism and leadership. Lions don't lack for ambition, either, so they're likely to accomplish a lot -- and have fun while they're at it. Their warmth and loyalty ensures that others will enjoy the ride as well.
ME: la de da de da
13. When the lights are low, the essential Lion comes to the fore, since this beast is 90% fun and 100% romantic. The Leo lover is devoted, creative and almost too hot to handle! Since Leo rules the heart and back, however, overzealous Lions may have to take a deep breath and slow down a bit. You can bet that the Lion's home will be swaddled in royal purple and gold.
ME: really???
14. Generous and warmhearted, creative and enthusiastic, broad- minded and expansive, faithful and loving
ME: don’t you just love the sound of that? I do.
15. On the dark side....Pompous and patronizing, bossy and interfering, dogmatic and intolerant
ME: Nahh not really. Word of advice- anything you read take it with a pinch of salt. In this case a sack load would do.
LIKES
Speculative ventures, lavish living, pageantry and grandeur, children and drama
DISLIKES
Doing things safely, ordinary-day to day living, small minded people, penny pinching and mean spiritedness

The Socks Story!
I remember the socks I wore when I was a kid. Lace edged ones that my mother would lovingly buy. Some would be dressed up with bows; some with small roses or even the colours would be different.
Then of course we had the boring white ones for school. The length kept diminishing (of course) by the time we reached class twelve. So wearing ankle length socks became the fad. No matter how cold it will be ankle length would work just fine for us girls. :)
Oh, we did have dark green socks for our winter uniforms in Delhi. It kinda complimented the uniform even though it was a yucky dark green.
The best thing about buying socks nowadays is that it comes in different colours and designs. You have striped ones, ten different colours in one pair; designs like ponies, hearts, butterflies and what not.
So I bought two pairs -one in deep purple and white with hearts and the other in deep magenta with green and white stripes…shocking, I know but I couldn’t resist them.
Wearing plain whites or even blacks & blues is sooo boring. The different colours actually remind you of a candy shop. Well they actually perk up my mood.
I don’t think they would look nice on men- the colourful ones I mean. :P

Pair of Heels
Mom: you are going to fall flat on your face with those. Besides heels are not good for your back.
Me: mom let me just try them on and I won’t wear them for long.
I was buying them for my sisters wedding. Naturally mom didn’t believe me, considering that I will be tottering in them throughout the day. As usual my sis came to my rescue and let me buy them. Yippee.
Now came the part of balancing and walking with grace. Its different when you are in the shop you are fine then, coz you are too happy to notice anything. But thinking about wearing them for the whole evening? Hmmm even I had doubts about that.
But surprise surprise, I wore them throughout and took them off only around 5 in the morning. I walked, hopped, ran and even danced in them. Since then I have been hooked on to heels. So far I have three blacks, one beige & one bronze.

The movie and blah blah
I think Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum) was really cute. Some of my pals liked Cedric and some like me liked Krum...oh well each to his/her own. Even though he did not have much to say in the movie (a line or two or three), he surely did a good job. As in playing the part of Viktor Krum to the T. And yes, that is Viktor Krum!

The Cockroach Episode
Let it be of any size, you will see me running out screaming or jumping on the bed till some one kills it. I cant look at a dead roach; always get the feeling it will be alive. Worst are the ones that fly. This is actually too funny but that time it was way to scary.
We had finished dinner and all of us were in the dining room talking about haunted places and stuff when a flying roach came in, I was the first one to see it so I ran out screaming. The rest of them thought I had seen some ghost and followed screaming. Complete mayhem; the warden came running she thought some one had got hurt. Finally when they asked me what I had seen I told them it was a flying roach I got thumped with pillows.
This happened yesterday. Yesterday was oil massage for the hair, so my roomie and I were sitting with oil in our hair. Finally around eleven in the night I went for my bath. I was in the process of rinsing out the suds outta my hair when I see this huge roach sitting on one of the doors (two doors for the shower) it’s antenna going up and down.
I dragged my clothes on, suds and all went out screaming (as usual) got my roomie to kill and get it outta my sight. Finally I got to finish my bath. But kept looking all over the place for some brown antenna-twitching monster throughout.

My Friend Mr. B
Reason: Cos I am not ga ga goo goo over relationships or have girlie ideas about marriage.
Don’t understand him… if some woman goes ga ga over those things he has that disgusted look and says ‘GIRLS’.
But when I take a practical approach to things he thinks I am draining myself out of emotions and not being ‘normal’.
Says I am taking a very mechanical approach about marriage and life itself (eye roll).
The last time I looked at my life I didn’t seem the least bit mechanical to me…
Wedding Bells and Sightseeing
She has plans of introducing her fiancé’s friends to us.... the ideas this woman gets. After much threatening that if she played cupid none of us would show up, she finally quit harassing us about marriage.
The wedding is in Dec and we are all dying to go. At least this way I will get to see Kerala. Sightseeing with old friends and a wedding…nice. :)

Logic??
X: Hey how was your weekend?
ME: it was good.
X: so did you go out with your boy friend?
X: where did u go?
Me: so? What are you pre historic?
ME: how will you describe yourself?
X: broad minded
ME: then what am I? Because I seem modern to you as you put it I must be having a guy?
X: ok fine you are traditional and have a boyfriend. (Grins)
ME: (shook head)
And I am still wondering why I had that conversation in the first place.
My Weekend- one of those days
In the evening I went out for shopping with two of my hostel mates (piggy and Cynthia who is called bubby now). I really made them walk up and down the mall. After a point they refused to lemme go into any store. I guess they were tired considering we left hostel around three something and came back around eight. Shop till you drop that’s what I always say.

Friday is here!!!
The hostel is going to be a mad house tonight, since the weekend is here. I am sure most of us are going to sit up late and yap or play cards or even play dark room. I don’t think any of us have outgrown our childhood in the hostel (big grin).
Tomorrow is Saturday and I will sleeeeep and sleeeep. Then meet friends, go out for lunch and oh yes go shopping. I am so going for shopping.
All you people out there have a nice weekend. : )
Strangers-a-calling
But sometimes no matter how rude you are they just don’t get the message. Those calls tend to freak you out after a point, you don’t pick them up thinking, ignore it; it will go away (the ostrich policy).
This happened like a week back or so.... I got a message some person asking how am I doing and he knew my name to boot. First thought was that it was one of friends playing a prank, but when this person called I didn’t recognise the voice. (Could be friend’s friend rite?).
I asked him his name; he refused to say it, so I disconnected the call.
He kept calling after a point I would pick up the call and cut it. He gave up calling but the messages didn’t stop. By then I had checked with all my pals, they didn’t know who it was. Now I was really angry. This person just didn’t know the meaning of no. Kept crapping about heard a lot about you and blah. Duhh!
Since he didn’t seem to be getting the message I had to tell one of my friends to call and warn this guy off. My friend did that and I got a message from the jackass saying that he really didn’t want to disturb and trouble me and blah blah.
If you get the message that some one does not want to talk to you I think you should respect that. I don’t think anyone would like some nameless calling up and telling them I know all about you, heard a lot about you and can we be friends? Psycho comes to mind.

Why the Double Standards?
Picture this-a couple in love, have very good relationship and are very happy together. The man tends to look at pretty women and even commence in harmless flirting; but he is still loyal to his ladylove and loves no other. His reason being boys will be boys it's human nature to admire all the good things in life. Women should understand that and blah blah. And harmless flirting never hurt anybody. Right?
I guess it’s different from individual to individual. Maybe there are men out there who do not feel insecure about their ladylove flirting. If you are true in your relationship you have no reason to be jealous or insecure.

Not Fair :(
I had to get up today also, it's back to being cloudy again, wahhhh. I am sure it will be the same thing today; really cloudy and not a drop of water. Then it will pour like cats and dogs all through the night and come morning everything will be dry. Something tells me the sun is going to come out tomorrow...sigh, it’s just not fair. It’s not a big thing that I am asking, a few more hours of sleep is all that I ask and so far not a rain drop in sight!

A Little Bit of Sense Please!
The Case of the Floating Slipper
Yesterday was Sunday, my friends and I had to go out shopping. So we got ready made sure we were nice and warm, armed with umbrellas we set out.
Since it was raining we thought it would be best to wear cut-offs and slippers. We finished our shopping and came out of the mall and walked down the pavement to the zebra crossing. Now the road had ankle deep water, we got into the water (no other way to cross) only to realise my chappali was floating away. Cynthia (hostel mate) and I both tried to retrieve it, it almsot went under a standing auto (the water was flowing quite fast) but I caught it. Cynithia actaully went to the other side of the auto to get it. We finally crossed the road without any hassle. Phewww!
It was funny though seeing my little chappali float away like that. We all had a nice laugh.
Thursday Night!
Well on Thursday since I was a lil scared I told Chotu (Priya) to sleep in my room, she said ok and told me to leave my door open said she would come down after sometime. So I was happy reading and after a while went off to dreamland.
Problem 1- locked the door by mistake which lead to problem 2- chotu could not enter.
I was out cold by ten and Suji (piggy) messaged me around ten thirty. The message read- ' what are you doing? Any sign of the woman in grudge?’
Chotu and Piggy were upstairs and were waiting for me to come up and yell. Since I did not reply nor did I go upstairs, they came down to check. They knocked on the door but I was fast asleep. They were quite disappointed since their prank failed to get the necessary response.
As usual I got up around three something to check if everything was okay. Saw that I had got messages and read Piggys message. I wasn’t sleepy anymore picked up my book to read but the message kept playing in my head. Then I saw that the curtains were moving, I freaked out completely. Opened my door, ran up the stairs and went to Piggys room; started banging on the door. In my panic I didn’t realise that the room was open (hee hee) Suji and Priya were up, I told them "guys I am not going down there, I am scared". And when I told them it was because of the message they burst out laughing. Suji was quite sorry but she kept laughing and I was like' what is wrong with you? who told u to send me that message!! Grudge of all things you pig'.
Priya came with me to collect my pillows and sheet and we came up. I put the table lamp on, even with those two in the room I was a lil scared. In the morning I felt really stupid. Suji was amazed; they all know I am scared of our hostel staircase; it looks real creepy in the night. But I braved it and came upstairs that too around three something when it’s really dark and quiet. Naturally as soon as the others came to hostel Chotu and Priya told them all about it. Needless to say they found it really funny. Hmmphh!
And for the rest of the weekend Priya (Chotu) slept in my room.

A Long Weekend
Since it's going to be a long weekend, I have already listed out what I will be doing on all the three days. Sleep, go for walks, read and of course go out with my hostel mates. We are all planning to go for a movie. And this Saturday we are getting Biryani from Shirin's grandma since its Eid on Friday. She makes amazing Biryani and she is happy when she knows we eat a lot. So most of us are clearly anticipating Saturday.
Birthday Gifts
I just can't make up my mind sometimes; I will finally get down to three or four choices and that’s when it gets difficult.
Perfect example was when I went shopping for Rita's birthday gift. I knew I was buying her a kurta; I spent an hour looking at the Kurtas and couldn't make up my mind for nuts. Finally, I got down to selecting it and THANK GOD she liked it!Now it’s Vee’s birthday on Monday and I know what to get her but I know I will be spending a long time shopping. Why can't it be made easier?
Solution: Best is to take the birthday baby along with you and get them what they like, right then and there. Problem solved! I know it kills the surprise, but they are gonna see it anyways. Birthday gifts = hours of pondering and shopping!
But sometimes when you get them the right gift its nice to see the smile bloom on their faces. Makes you feel all happy inside!

Sleep
My roommate has gone to Delhi and I have to sleep alone. Right when I am trying to sleep, my stupid brain recalls all the scary scenes that it can remember and I keep looking around the room incase something is out there to pounce on me. I sleep with the lights on, no way will I switch off the lights. But I get up like four or five times in the night, check if everything is okay and go back to sleep.
Trust me when I say that by the time it's time to get up and I am dead tired and really sleepy. Waiting for my roomie to come back soon, so that I can sleep peacefully. I actually keep two Bibles next to me; feel much safer that way. It's become a routine for me now, getting up in the night checking the time and checking the room.
Since tomorrow is a holiday, I can sleep for a longer time and not get up around 7:30 in the morning. I wish I could keep Snowy with me, when he is around I sleep like a log. Actually both of us sleep like logs. :) My roommate is coming back by 14th, and that's like far far away. But I am holding on till then; I have the lights to keep away the darkness.
Just hoping the current does not go off (gulp).
These Auto Walas
Since it rained in Chennai, the auto drivers are having a ball. They have been doubling up their prices and actually take it as an insult if you quote the right price. If you haggle with them rest assured they would complain through out the journey or drop you before your stop. It’s maddening!
Some of them try to have a P.C with you and no matter what (glares, stone faced, look like the lorry ran over you) they still keep looking at you through their rear view mirror. It gets really scary when they take you through lanes saying it’s a short cut but it ends up being longer. When things like this happen I make sure I call up some one who can reach me at any given time tell them where I am, by reading the address on the shop boards. I have learnt not to show that I don’t know the area that he is taking me into, or that I am getting scared when they are rash driving.
Traveling in an auto in Chennai is not that easy, especially late evening.
Feast Time
Well I had two slices since my aunt and mom think I need to fatten up (holiday season who am I to complain);). We were watching TV and yapping, when my aunt brings in bundi ke laddoo. The sweets I really love are- bundi ke laddoo, jelabi and gulab jamun.
So naturally I had the laddoos. Then we had a nice heavy lunch and I had bhindi (I love bhindi). As I was leaving my aunt packed me some chocolate truffle, laddoos, plum cake and rice halwa. Got strict orders to eat properly from mom and aunt both.
I reached hostel and Suji (piggy) had already arrived after visiting her brother. We started yapping had a little bit of cake and laddoo. Since the cook was on leave we were wondering what would be for dinner. When she suddenly said 'I feel like having a pizza'. So I promptly called up my friend and asked him to get us a pizza. He got us a family size chicken teekha pizza. Wow!
Nans came to hostel around eight and she had got home cooked food- pulao and vegetable korma along with sweets. So the pizza was put on hold. We had dinner and finished it off with butterscotch cake (warden's birthday). Sinful huh? We all ganged up in my room, Shirin had come by then. It was Nans, Suji, Shirin and I and the pizza. We had pizza after an hour, it was cold (who cares) and had chocolate truffle after that. SIGH!! Holiday season perfect time for a feast. The sweets are still left though :) and so is the plum cake. ;)
